I am extremely privileged and honoured to head a pioneer organization Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) of Central Silk Board (CSB) as a Director, which is the only institute dedicated to the Research & Developmental activities related to silk technology. Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) was established in 1983 by CSB, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and it has been working on solving the challenges of the silk industry and providing innovative solutions which shall bring a paradigm shift in the field.

Productivity & quality improvement, new-diversified product development, drudgery reduction, manpower reduction by automation, effective by-product utilization, use of renewable energy and specialized application of silk for non-textile purpose are the major important mandates of CSTRI and have been addressed efficiently through continuous R&D efforts. Significant progress has also been made in other important mandates of CSTRI like training, testing, extension and implementation of schemes etc. The institute has been contributing tremendously in the field of post cocoon activities of mulberry as well as vanya (wild) silk. Also our efforts are towards value addition to the industry by utilizing the by-products effectively. The fruits of R &D are taken to the field through various central sector schemes.

The sub units of the Institute have taken a responsibility of transfer of technology, training   programme, extension activities and conducting field oriented research in addition to the implementation and monitoring of various central sector schemes. The sub units also involved in adoption of reeling, weaving, twisting and dyeing units for continuous monitoring facilitating overall improvement in productivity and quality improvement.
