I am extremely privileged and honoured to head a pioneer organization Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) of Central Silk Board (CSB) as a Director, which is the only institute dedicated to the Research & Developmental activities related to silk technology. Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) was established in 1983 by CSB, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and it has been working on solving the challenges of the silk industry and providing innovative solutions which shall bring a paradigm shift in the field.

Productivity & quality improvement, new-diversified product development, drudgery reduction, manpower reduction by automation, effective by-product utilization, use of renewable energy and specialized application of silk for non-textile purpose are the major important mandates of CSTRI and have been addressed efficiently through continuous R&D efforts. Significant progress has also been made in other important mandates of CSTRI like training, testing, extension and implementation of schemes etc. The institute has been contributing tremendously in the field of post cocoon activities of mulberry as well as vanya (wild) silk. Also our efforts are towards value addition to the industry by utilizing the by-products effectively. The fruits of R &D are taken to the field through various central sector schemes.

The sub units of the Institute have taken a responsibility of transfer of technology, training   programme, extension activities and conducting field oriented research in addition to the implementation and monitoring of various central sector schemes. The sub units also involved in adoption of reeling, weaving, twisting and dyeing units for continuous monitoring facilitating overall improvement in productivity and quality improvement.

Member Secretary, Central Silk Board has been the guiding force through his encouragement, motivation, constant support and ample facilities in all the matters to achieve the goals of CSTRI. Finally, I would like to thank all the Scientists and staff of CSTRI at the Main Institute and sub units, the state governments, and all the stake holders for their co-operation, support and encouragement which has significantly helped us in serving the silk industry effectively. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Chairman and all the committee members of Research Advisory Committee of the Institute for their support and guidance extended. I acknowledge the guidance extended by Chairman and committee members of Research Co-ordination Committee of Central Silk Board. CSTRI shall continue to serve the industry with dedication for the overall development of silk industry.
