About the Institute:

Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) was established in the year 1983 by the Central Silk Board, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The Institute is equipped with infrastructure for conducting Research and Developmental activities in Silk Yarn Production, Fabric formation, Designing, Wet Processing along with Training, Extension and Market information dissemination. The main mandates of CSTRI are Quality Improvement, Productivity Improvement, Services to the industry, Enterprise development and Market information dissemination. Important mandates of CSTRI are research, training, testing, extension and implementation of schemes in which Institute has achieved incredible success. CSTRI through its focused R & D approach in silk industry has effected advanced technology adoption in silk reeling, silk weaving and dyeing, productivity & quality improvement, new diversified product development, drudgery reduction, manpower reduction by automation, effective by-product utilization, use of renewable energy and specialized application of silk for non-textile purposes. These major target areas in silk sector have been addressed efficiently through continuous R & D efforts by the institute. The fruits of R & D in CSTRI are effectively transferred through various central sector schemes in the silk industry.

  • See India emerge as the leader in the world market for silk.

  • Make continuous efforts in Research and Development and Technology Transfer
  • To create greater opportunities for gainful employment and improved levels of income in sericulture through spread of scientific sericulture practices
  • To improve productivity in all stages of silk production
  • Strengthen levels of efficiency through a commitment to quality.

Objectives of the Institute

(V) Why Choose CSTRI for ITEC Training?

Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) is the only research institute in the country dedicated to the research and developmental activities related to silk technology.

CSTRI has extended four decades of unhindered services to the silk industry with highly experienced Scientists and technical staff specialized in Post Cocoon Silk Technologies. CSTRI has well equipped laboratories, pilot scale units, testing instruments and technically qualified trainers along with vast network in silk industries which would provide the best training skills with industrial exposure for the trainees.

The main CSTRI institute at Bangalore along with its field units spread across the country has also taken a responsibility of field oriented research and development, transfer of technology, training programme, extension activities and conducting field oriented research in addition to the implementation and monitoring of various central sector schemes. CSTRI training division’s presence in Bangalore is a boon for silk technology trainees as Bangalore is the epicenter for silk industry in India with a thriving huge silk reeling, weaving and dyeing clusters around the city.

International Sericulture Commission, an international body recognized by United Nations is also head quartered in the same campus of CSTRI, Central Silk Board which provides international cooperation for growth of silk industry in the world. CSTRI also has excellent guest house and hostel to accommodate the international trainees in campus.

With these vital benefits, CSTRI is considered as an ideal centre for conduction of International Training Programmes on silk technologies.
