CSTRI SUB UNITS
The Sub-units of CSTRI are broadly categorized under two heads viz., Silk Technical Service Centers (STSCs) and Regional Silk Technological Research Stations (RSTRSs) The STSCs have the mandate of providing technical services to the silk clusters in their command areas. The activities include organizing training programmes, technology demonstrations, field interaction programmes and quality assessment with thrust on cocoon quality assessment. Wherever possible, they create market linkages and also help in solving day-to-day problems of the production units. The technologies developed by CSTRI are disseminated through the Sub-units. They adopt reeling, twisting and weaving units for continuous monitoring and overall development. The STSCs are also involved in the implementation and monitoring of CSS schemes. They have been able to create a positive impact in the field of mulberry as well as non -mulberry sectors.
The RSTRSs have the exclusive mandate of inculcating quality awareness amongst the manufacturers and buyers of raw silk and twisted silk. The Scientists of RSTRS conducts field-oriented research in association with main institute.
The testing services of RSTRSs are being offered to a wide cross section of the industry, which includes marketing, reelers, weavers, twisters and traders. The test reports are explained and suitable remedial measures/approaches for quality improvement are provided. The services are offered on nominal charge basis. A large number of producers and buyers have availed the services of RSTRSs during the year. RSTRSs also carry out field level applied research.
The Textile Testing Laboratories of CSTRI were established in order to cater to the needs of the industry in evaluating the physical, chemical and eco parameters of silk textiles. The TTLs with facilities for testing a wide range of parameters are meeting the growing demand especially of the export sector in view of the stringent requirements with regard to eco parameters by the importing countries.
